How it all started...
The Calvary Church Journey
Calvary Church was founded under the name Door of Hope Fellowship in 1994 under founding pastors John and Jean Chapman. As a church plant from Calvary Church in Johnson City, TN beginning in Seven
Mile Ford, we rented three different facilities prior to purchasing the property on Shuler Hollow Road in 2001. Our current property was originally a mechanic’s shop and thanks to volunteer work from
dedicated church members and pastors we did most of the remodeling ourselves incur-ring very little debt. Our fellowship hall was added on in 2006. The adjoining property with the single wide trailer where the youth room is located was purchased in September of 2013, expanding our church parking lot and more than doubling our property.
In August of 2012 our church was renamed “Calvary Church of SWVA.” This name change was motivated by a desire to show a clear connection with our parent church in Johnson City, TN & also to
provide a more universal church name that would appeal to various denominational backgrounds. We are an independent church, but we are not independent-minded, and value accountability both
externally & internally. Our desire has always been to be a church that is truly inter-denominational, with an emphasis on the importance of praise and worship. Church members come from almost every denominational background and we have found in common a love for God’s Word and His presence. We are so glad you have joined us on our blessed journey. Together, let's win our region for Christ!

Expanding the vision...
We are so excited to see how God plans to use our small church on a hill to ministry to and meet the needs of our community. It is our goal to continue moving forward in the direction that God has us to go. Great things are yet to come.
